Value I Can Deliver

What I bring to a team and an organisation.

Modular cloud systems

Designing, developing, and deploying modular cloud-based systems. Over the last 5 years at Sainsbury's I created and managed Terraform-coded infrastructure on AWS and Helm and Flux-managed containerised applications on AWS EKS, including monitoring, logging, alerting, and connectivity.

Leadership & open source

Beyond my day job, I led a Cloud Engineering Community that voluntarily built an open-source learning platform on Google Cloud. It developed my leadership and design skills and gave me the experience of creating something new from scratch.

Cost reduction

Reduced cloud costs by more than 16% on average over the last year. Read how I did it.

Troubleshooting & security

Identifying, analysing, and resolving infrastructure vulnerabilities and deployment issues in line with company security policies and cloud security best practices.

For example, an app with a frontend, backend, authentication, and database had an authentication issue somewhere between DNS, CloudFront, WAF, OAuth2, Azure Entra ID, and the backend. Understanding every component led to the root cause: a WAF payload limitation.

Continuous improvement

Reviewing existing systems and recommending improvements. I like tools that show me what I am missing: I found zizmor, which scans GitHub Actions workflows for security issues, and applied all its suggestions across our existing workflows, making them more secure.

Automation

I recently automated Confluent Cloud secret rotation: it retrieves and decrypts the secrets, compares them with the current credentials, and when they change renews the HashiCorp Vault and AWS Secrets Manager secrets, without exposing any secret. It also restarts the Kubernetes pods so they pick up the renewed secrets.

CI/CD pipelines

Creating and improving CI/CD pipelines, including integration, operations, management, and maintenance. With GitHub Actions, CircleCI, and Jenkins I have created "miracles" (the developers' word) for tedious but necessary jobs.

Scripting

Building scripts and processes that reduce barriers, decrease friction, and speed up delivery, mostly with Bash and Python. I have yet to see a case where Bash could not do the job.

Bridging Dev and Ops

Collaborating with and providing technical assistance to operations and developer teams on microservices, deployment strategies, cloud architecture, and cloud resources, filling the gap between the two as DevOps intends.

Capacity planning

Planning cloud infrastructure capacity, which requires a true understanding of a service's purpose, requirements, expectations, limitations, cost, and business context.

Clear communication

Presenting complex technical infrastructure in a simple, easy-to-understand way, especially for non-technical colleagues and customers.

// about me

Who I Am

How I work, and what colleagues say about working with me.

Self-managing & under pressure

Positive, solution-oriented, self-motivated, disciplined, and organised, and I thrive in a fast-paced environment. I coordinate the migration of 32 production apps and services to a new platform with 3 developer teams involved. Besides coordination and meeting deadlines, I do the automation and production deployments, resolve infrastructure issues, hand application issues to developers, and coordinate other teams when needed.

Resilient & results-driven

Naturally resilient and tenacious, with excellent communication and influencing skills. Comfortable leading teams of engineers as well as building the technical solution myself.

Self-starter

When I heard of a tool that scans GitHub for credential exposure, I installed it, learned it, wrote a script to scan 100+ repositories, and acted on the findings, even though nobody had asked and there was no ticket.

Team player

Colleagues rate being happy to have me on their team 9.56/10 (Sept 2026), 9.50 (Jan 2026), and 9.38 (2025).

Adaptable

I support 5 developer teams at the same time, which takes high adaptability.

Problem solver

Some apps using Elasticsearch ran on a self-managed EKS cluster and hit connectivity issues after being migrated to another platform. I created AWS OpenSearch, migrated the data from Elasticsearch, and set up a robust, secure connection, which resolved the issues.

Using AI responsibly

I use AI within company guardrails, and I am keen to explore how it can help us do better what we do. For example, to troubleshoot an issue I had AI fetch S3 logs for a specific timeframe and Kubernetes pod logs, compare the error logs across systems, trace the error, document the findings, and suggest remediations.

Long-term thinker

I would rather assess all effects, long-term sustainability, and maintenance than just move tickets to done, and I do not sacrifice those for a quick gain. I think strategically about long-term gains and trade-offs.

Smart-working & always learning

Doing the right thing instead of just doing things right. Eager to learn, interested in new technology, driven by continuous personal development, and happy to get hands-on while thinking about business impact. Proven ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem-solving environment.

"You bring a high level of expertise and knowledge to the team and your ability to guide & help others is truly valuable. You're always approachable too. Please continue supporting the team, the way you do."
"Feyz, you do a great job of bringing a positive and collaborative approach to the team. You are approachable, supportive, and always willing to help when needed. I particularly appreciate the way you communicate clearly, listen to different perspectives, and help move discussions towards practical solutions."

Pillars of my mindset

I am part of a team I embrace constant change and progress I believe in data I am sincere and humble I am result-oriented and take ownership I am here for the customers
